Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without a little bit of sparkle.
This year, treat your eyes to a look around Phetsai Designs. I recently went for a little browse and instantly fell in love with the beautiful jewellery, and was charmed by the warmest of welcomes from the shop’s owner, Simon Phetsai.
Simon has been running the High Street shop since April, having previously had a shop in Nailsworth for two years, and prior to that a stall in Cirencester’s Corn Hall market for two years.
Simon tells me: “I started making my own jewellery for the stall in Cirencester and people would sometimes ask me to make them special things. Eventually I had to say no because I was too busy to take commissions as well as working six days a week on the stall.
“These days most of my stock is hand-made by me and a friend. Almost everything is a unique one-off design. Less than 5% is duplicated. When I do buy stock from elsewhere I hand-pick each piece myself.
“Our jewellery is made from materials like cubic zirconia, Swarovski crystals, freshwater pearls, sterling silver and rhodium plate which is nickel-free and allergy-free.”
The pieces range from fun costume jewellery to stunning statement pieces. Simon laughs: “Some people say it’s OTT but I do what I like! I used to work in a hairdressers giving head massages, and in a 5-star hotel, but when I started making jewellery it just made me happy. It’s very relaxing. So I just make the things that make me feel happy. Sometimes I’m sad to see a special piece go but when I know somebody loves it I’m glad it will go to a good home.”
As well as the jewellery Simon stocks a range of 100% organic candle diffusers and hand and body lotion. There are also handbags and a selection of gorgeous dresses from Thailand in flowing fabrics with exotic prints. However it is the sparkly necklaces that keep catching my eye. Simon points out that some people simply frame the jewellery and display it in their homes.
So, if you’re also after a little bit of bling to brighten the grey days, have a wander round this beautiful shop. With prices starting at £2.50 there’s something to suit every budget.
