Pop into Lounge 16 and you’ll always see a friendly face!
Louise Connor has been running the bar since May last year when her son took over the business and roped the whole family in to help! With its light, airy atmosphere and tantalising menus, this comfortable lounge in the very centre of town is an ideal place to while away an afternoon or evening. I went along to check it out.
The first thing I noticed when I walked in to Lounge 16 was the beautiful display of fresh flowers in the window. The second was the enormous cakes on the counter. Everything looks amazing in here! Louise certainly has a good eye for the aesthetic.
Louise: I wanted to make the place look good. I want it to feel comfortable the moment you walk in. We put hearts in all our displays because I want people to feel the love! All our food is made fresh, everything from traditional lasagna, toasties, chillis and jacket potato to vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. All our cakes are home made. I want it to feel like a home from home here where people can come in and relax. I found that I was spending so much time here that I wasn’t able to go out and see my friends, so I told them all to come in and see me instead. I love it when people come in for a chat. I do all my socialising here now!
I noticed on Valentines day that you were doing a singles night with a difference – that was a great idea.
Louise: Yes it wasn’t a traditional singles night where you’d go to meet a partner, but a night where you could come alone without worrying about having to be in a couple. I even made some new friends myself – we’re going to go salsa dancing! I always wanted this to be a place anyone would feel happy to walk into on their own. There are so many people who would love to go out, but when their friends are busy they just stay home. Our Valentines night was so popular that we’re going to start doing a regular singles night, once a month, where you can come along not necessarily to find romance but maybe to just find new friends – maybe someone to go to the cinema with, maybe just someone to sit and chat with over a coffee.
In addition to being a comfortable lounge in the daytime, there’s a versatile function room upstairs which is available for bookings for parties, yoga classes, book clubs, conferences or anything you can think of. Pop in to chat to Louise if you’d like to book the space. At the weekends the upstairs is opened up and a resident DJ rocks the joint with all the best music.
Louise: Keep an eye on our listings, we have different music each week. Sometimes it’ll be a 70s disco night, or maybe a Rock night or we have different themes going on through the year. We’re open until 1am on Friday and Saturday nights with a nice selection of food, lagers on tap and premium drinks. We always have fun! Let us know if you have a great idea for a theme or if you want to book the space for a party. We’re suitable for all ages here, open for anyone.
Drop in and say hello. Tell your friends.
Share the love ❤
