Riding on the back of the New Year come all those resolutions to do something different this year: to live the life you’ve always wanted, to lose all that weight, to change the world …
it’s exhausting just thinking about it. We tend to set ourselves major challenges as goals so it’s no wonder those resolutions don’t last until the end of January!
How about taking a different approach and being more relaxed this New Year? There’s a saying that ‘small is beautiful’ and this is certainly the case for making life changes. If the goal is small and achievable, you’re more likely to make it happen. Perhaps start by tackling that thing which niggles you most each week.
If you want to get out of the house more, meet more people, or gain some new skills, how about giving an hour or two per week or month to volunteer with a local project in your neighbourhood? You control the amount of time and you’ll also see the fruits of your labours. Over 40 volunteers help to keep Stroud Valleys Credit Union operating and this year’s twentieth birthday shows the big changes that small amounts of volunteering can achieve.
If you’re interested in how a small amount of your time can keep us moving forward, call into our office between 11am-1pm every Monday, and Wednesday-Saturday at The Old Town Hall in The Shambles, ring 01453 298785 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for a chat. All sorts of tasks need doing week by week: publicity, admin, cashiering – it’s not just about adding up numbers! We offer training and support to all volunteers.
