Stroud Valleys Credit Union is offering a £25 windfall for new savers this autumn.
SVCU, Stroud’s own community bank, is a financial co-operative run by local people for local people. It’s 20 years old this year and to mark this anniversary, it’s offering a special bonus for anyone opening a savings account before 30 November – save at least £10 per month for 3 months and £25 will be added to your savings, free of charge!
This offer is being run in partnership with the ‘Stop Loan Sharks’ Team – part of Trading Standards – which concentrates upon finding and prosecuting loan sharks. The team is supplying the £25 bonus as part of their prevention work to help people avoid the debt traps caused by these illegal money lenders.
SVCU offers savings accounts and loans to people living and/or working just in Stroud district and Tetbury. Anyone who saves or borrows from the credit union becomes a member and has a share of its profits. Because the credit union is small, it can be people-focused, getting to know members and adding a friendly face to finances. They are keen to help members build their financial resilience so they can deal with the unexpected in life and also save for something nice like a holiday. Hence this 20th birthday special savings offer giving a boost to new savings accounts opened by anyone over the age of 18. Regular savers also qualify for a lower rate of interest should they need to take out a loan, adding an extra benefit to saving with us.
If you think you’re in the clutches of a loan shark, phone the confidential hotline on 0300 5552222 and talk to someone who’ll be able to help you.
