A versatile and welcoming venue in the heart of town.
Have you been to the Imperial Hotel lately? You may have relaxed in the well-stocked bar or enjoyed a sumptuous meal in their award-winning Thai Royal Orchid Restaurant, but did you also know that in addition to the hotel’s 25 bedrooms there are also two beautiful function rooms available to hire for events such as weddings, private parties, a quarterly record fair or various weekly clubs and classes?
Lakshman Gallage is now in his tenth year as manager of the hotel. He had previously run a fuel station in London Road for twelve years before taking over the 200 year-old former Coaching Inn and turning its fortunes around.
Lakshman says: ‟When I first took the business over I invested a lot. I planned ten years ahead and had a vision for success. It’s an old building and takes a lot of maintenance but I had a strong plan from the very first day that I would turn the business upside down. Half of my staff have stayed with me for the whole ten years. We’re a very close small team, like a family. Within one year of taking over we were winning awards – first the Stroud Life Restaurant of the Year award in 2011, then the Local Enterprise award in 2012. Since then we constantly achieve Tripadvisor’s highest standards. We’re a family-friendly business falling inbetween a pub, restaurant and hotel.
‟My key to success has been hard work and planning. I start and end each day with meditation to clear and focus my mind. I also believe that a good business needs to be part of the local community. We offer our function rooms free to registered charities and we enjoy hosting our Stroud clubs here. We even hold regular meditation sessions which people are welcome to join free of charge.”
