Have you been to the new Cotswold Dogs and Cats Home charity shop on Lansdown Road yet?
You are probably already familiar with the Cotswold Dogs and Cats Home’s popular and well-established boutique which has been on Lansdown Road for thirty years. Recently the shop has expanded into two shops, the original boutique plus a brand new furniture and electrical shop next door. I went along to meet the manager of the new shop, Faye, who told me her vision for the year ahead.
“Our shop is weird and wonderful and full to the brim of goodies for men, women and children. Picture an Aladdin’s cave – but on another level! We have Singer sewing machines (electric and manual), leather sofas, furniture and totally divine vintage clothing. We opened last October in time for Halloween and I loved getting the shop ready”, Faye tells me.
Faye has worked for a decade in non-profit organisations. She loves being in Stroud and creating interesting shop displays – looking around the shop I see Shrek, Madame Cholet, Sulley and a large chimpanzee sitting around a table enjoying a game of cards. Faye tells me she loves using old items and whatever comes to hand so that all the money from sales and donations goes where it’s needed most.
Faye plans to make the new Lansdown shop a destination for camping supplies. She’s been stashing tents and camping equipment ready for summer and the festival season. She also wants the shop to become a hub for music, with musical instruments and equipment for sale and a friendly atmosphere where people can try the instruments and jam together if they want to! There will soon be live music in the shop on Saturdays, so why not go along and join in?
Not forgetting our furry friends, the new shop has a pets’ corner and Cotswold Dogs and Cats Home provides an on-site veterinary clinic on Thursday afternoons specifically for pets whose owners are claiming benefits. Faye is self-appointed Chief Cuddler. She says, “It works for me. I get to cuddle animals all day!”
So whether you’re looking for quirky vintage goods, planning a summer of musical camping or just fancy a nosey around, pop in for a visit!
Donations of quality electrical items, clothing and bric a brac are gratefully received as well as good quality furniture. There is a free collection service for larger items and a customer delivery service is also available. Contact the shop for further details.

Cotswold Dogs and Cats Home (CDCH) is an animal rescue charity with ten charity shops all around the local region.
