There’s not long to wait until we can experience the new incarnation of one of Stroud’s favourite shops, Brilliant Disguise.
Since previous shop owners, Simon and Jane, announced their retirement after 13 years on Stroud High Street, new owners, Kayleigh and Tom, have been busy getting the new business ready. I went along to talk to Kayleigh and find out all about it.
Kayleigh: “Stroud is very important to us as it’s our home, and we felt that Brilliant Disguise was such a big part of Stroud’s thriving independent scene that we couldn’t just let it go. So with Simon and Jane’s advice and guidance Tom and I have started our own business in order to carry on the good thing that they created.
“I’ve worked in retail all my adult life, so this feels like the next logical step for me. We’re giving the shop a lick of paint at the moment and putting together our Spring collection – you can follow our progress on our Instagram and Facebook pages. Then we’ll be holding an open evening on Thursday 19th March, free for anyone to come along and join us for fizz and nibbles. We’ll open officially on Friday 20th March at 9am. We’re looking forward to being part of Stroud’s independent scene. It’s all about togetherness – all the businesses support each other. The more interesting shops there are in town, the more people will want to come and shop here.”
Amazingly Kayleigh is offering to honour the plastic vouchers from the old Brilliant Disguise, so if you’ve got any hidden in your wallets bring them along and see if you can find something you like.
Kayleigh: “We’ve kept many of our existing stockists like Seasalt, Superdry and Thought as well as gorgeous footwear from The Art Company, Oak & Hyde, and Fly London; so you’ll still be able to find all your favourite brands here. We’re also going to slowly introduce some new lines as we grow. I’ve got some beautiful new high-quality vegan leather handbags and purses from Goodeehoo. I’m very excited to see what our customers think. We’ll also be opening on Sundays and we’ll be offering a 10% student discount to people holding NUS or Stroud College badges.”
It’s very clear that Kayleigh is full of good ideas and enthusiasm for her new shop. Whether you’re a new customer or a long-time fan of Brilliant Disguise, pop in and say hello and see what gorgeous treats you can find inside.
